Blog shift, format, wine & word

So much at once, right? For a couple of years now, I’ve been blogging at ¿Se enseña aquí? — a blog begun partly in the hopes of encouraging students to study abroad (in particular in the program in Rosario, Argentina, where I was about to teach) and continued as a way to talk about translation, language games, writing, revision, this & that, and to share a few images that I found lovely or that made me think. Over here, I’ve included some sample stories, information on my translations, and a few announcements of readings and the like.

Starting now, I’ll do my blogging here, too (irregular as it sometimes is). I’ve imported all posts from my prior blog. Some of the formatting is a little off, with photos floating weirdly in the middle of the page, but I don’t think I’ll spend a lot of time on retrospective (attempted) fixes. For those of you who might be visiting the site for the first time, I hope you’ll enjoy having a glance at some of my earlier posts. For my faithful readers (not legion, maybe, but no less valued for that!), I hope you’ll make the hop over here and stay.

It’s been a lazy Sunday–a couple of recommendation letters to write, some playing with the kids, a little reading, donuts. And choosing material for next weekend’s Wine and Word Celebration at Winter’s Hill Vineyard. Yes, indeed, we’re on our third edition, and this year’s is the most splendidly diverse group of readers and books so far: Karen McPherson, Micaiah Evans, Cole Danehower, Eric Lindstrom, Pedro García-Caro, Jim Gullo, and yours truly. I’ve been working on my tasting notes–hints for pairing word with wine; say, Detours with a reserve pinot noir, or Trafalgar with the 2009 vintage. I’ll be reading from both, and it will be a bit of a launch party– did I mention Tuesday is publication day for Trafalgar at Small Beer Press? Hooray!

Winter’s Hill Vineyard, Saturday February 16, 11-5. Rotating “flights” of readers on the hour starting at noon. We’ll have pairing suggestions but, better yet, taste both wine and word and decide for yourself!
